Chief Financial Officer

TITLE                                   Vice President and Chief Financial Officer

REPORTS TO:                     Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) leads the organization’s financial operations and serves as the primary financial advisor and a key member of the Senior Management Team (SMT). The CFO's key responsibilities include strategizing the financial direction, overseeing fiscal activities such as budgeting, forecasting, and risk management, and ensuring compliance with all regulations. By aligning financial strategies with business goals, the CFO plays a pivotal role in driving revenue and sustainable growth. Additionally, the CFO is instrumental in investment management, financial reporting, and monitoring internal controls to maintain financial health and integrity.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Leads and manages the accounting and financial staff.
  • Participates as a member of the senior management team.
  • Serves as the key liaison with the board treasurer and finance and audit committee on financial matters. Also serves as a liaison to the organization’s independent audit firm, banks, investment managers, insurance brokers, vendors, and other professionals regarding finances and administration.
  • Prepares, analyzes, and interprets monthly financial statements and reports. Provides financial, statistical, and analytical reports as needed.
  • Ensures the financial management system includes all appropriate controls to maintain fiscal integrity.
  • Manages, reviews, and coordinates month-end financial reconciliations.
  • Coordinates and manages the preparation and development of the annual budget, quarterly projections, and forecasting.
  • Coordinates the annual financial audit process, liaising with external auditors and ensuring compliance with audit requirements.
  • Oversees cash receipts and accounts payable processes.
  • Manages cash and investments to maximize returns within the limits set by the investment policy.
  • Oversees the semi-monthly payroll processing and serves as a point of contact with ADP.
  • Coordinates the preparation of all tax forms and other statutory filings, as required.
  • Administers and manages general insurance and other finance-related contracts and commitments, including ASA’s office lease.
  • Develops standard operating policies and procedures related to finance operations.
  • Works with the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) on benefits, compensation, compliance, and other matters.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • BS/BA Degree in Accounting (or a related field) is required.
  • CPA is required
  • MBA is highly preferred
  • Minimum of 10+ (ten or more) years of leadership experience within trade association finance/accounting departments.
  • Previous CFO experience is required
  • Previous public accounting training required
  • Proficiency in financial software (Sage Intacct), budgeting software (Martus)
  • Association Management software (Fonteva/Salesforce)
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office Suite is required.
  • The ideal candidate should demonstrate the ability to collaborate with executive leaders to set and drive the organization’s vision and strategy.
  • Building and maintaining trusting relationships with colleagues, members, external contractors, and other stakeholders is essential.
  • The candidate must possess excellent organizational and analytical skills and be capable of synthesizing and clearly presenting information quantitatively and qualitatively to the Board, executive management, and program managers.

COMPENSATION & CULTURE:
$260,000 - $290,000 + discretionary year-end bonus
