RCT Systems, Power Systems Division, is seeking a Sr. Manager of Engineering to oversee a group of mechanical, electrical, controls, and software engineers developing cutting edge power converters and energy storage systems for high power commercial and military applications. This role demands a visionary leader with a strong technical background, proven program execution skills, and the ability to foster a high-performance engineering culture. This position reports to the President of RCT Systems and works closely with the head of Operations and Manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities: Strategic Leadership
Define and drive the long-term technology and product roadmap in alignment with RCT Systems’ growth objectives.
Represent engineering capabilities in executive leadership meetings and support business development initiatives with technical strategy.
Identify emerging technologies and trends relevant to the company’s mission and recommend areas for investment and development.
Write and/or review patents, whitepapers, and technical conference/journal articles
Foster collaboration with RCT Operations team, electro-mechanical technicians, purchasing, and program management departments
Engineering Operations
Oversee all engineering projects and R&D initiatives, ensuring delivery of high-quality solutions on time and within budget.
Lead efforts to standardize engineering processes, design reviews, documentation, and quality assurance practices.
Ensure rigorous systems engineering, design verification, and validation procedures across all products.
People & Team Development
Build, mentor, and retain a diverse team of top-tier engineering talent.
Foster a culture of technical curiosity, accountability, and continuous learning.
Guide career development paths for engineering staff including training, mentoring, and performance evaluation.
Program Execution & Customer Engagement
Interface directly with key customers and program stakeholders, providing technical leadership and ensuring program alignment.
Serve as technical authority and final escalation point on major projects and product issues.
Provide engineering inputs and support proposal development, including cost estimation, scheduling, and risk identification.
Design Expertise
SiC based power electronic converter topologies including active rectifiers, isolated DC-DC converters, solid-state-transformers, and high-speed motor drives
Evaluating, integrating, and testing various energy storage systems and technologies
Know how to utilize Controller-Hardware-in-the-Loop and Power-Hardware-in-the-loop to optimize design cycles and improve outcomes
Experience with medium voltage power distribution and solid-state-transformers
Minimum Requirements:
United States Citizenship required due to US Government ITAR program restrictions
Ability to obtain a DoD security clearance
BS in electrical engineering, computer science, or related major required, MS and PhDs a plus
15+ years’ experience overall in power electronics and energy storage field, with 10+ years’ experience in senior leadership roles
Deep expertise in power electronics and energy conversion systems
Proven track record of managing multidisciplinary teams and delivering complex systems
Demonstrated success scaling teams and transitioning prototypes into production-level systems
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with DoD or other government contracts and navigating acquisition requirements
Knowledge of digital control systems, high-frequency converters, EMI/EMC standards, or medium-voltage converter systems
Immediate Requirements/Projects include:
High Power SiC power device design into converters/inverters
EMI/EMC MIL 461 Compliance and other MIL spec design requirements
