Job Title:
A warm and loving family in Media, PA is seeking a dedicated, physically capable and strong, and deeply compassionate full-time Nanny/Companion for their 12-year-old son who has Lesch-Nyhan syndrome. He is wheelchair-bound, has a feeding tube (G-tube), a fundoplication, and experiences dystonia and spontaneous movements. While he faces significant physical and developmental challenges, he is also bright, funny, observant, and delightfully sarcastic. He thrives on connection, conversation, and kindness—and deserves a caregiver who genuinely sees and values his personality.
Assist with all aspects of childcare, including:
Diaper changes
Showering
Brushing teeth
Dressing for school and bed
Support feeding (primarily via G-tube, with some oral intake and water)
Help with mobility: lifting in and out of wheelchair is required (must be physically strong)
Plan and accompany him on engaging outings (museums, walks, community events)
Provide interactive companionship: reading to him, watching shows together, offering social interaction and conversation
Daily organization of bedroom and supplies; change bed linens each day
Split Shift (Monday–Friday):
Morning: 7:00 AM – 8:30 AM (assist with morning routine before school bus)
Afternoon: 3:30 PM – 9 PM (receive him from bus, companionship, bedtime routine)
One weekend day required – focused on outings and quality time
Additional hours may be available to minimize downtime between shifts - hours towards gardening, handy tasks, etc.
Must be physically strong and capable of lifting and supporting a growing pre-teen
Patient, empathetic, and emotionally mature
Kind-hearted and warm with a genuine love for children
Comfortable managing flailing or involuntary movements in a safe and calm manner
Willing to commit long-term and become part of the family’s trusted circle
Open to traveling to Maine for several weeks during the summer (Private bedroom, shared bathroom accommodations provided). Hours would likely remain split shift during the summer, but client is open to shifting schedule.
No medical training required – all responsibilities can be taught by parents
While there is currently no live-in option, the family is open to revisiting this in the future. Ideal candidates will be invested in building a meaningful bond and sharing joyful moments with their son, whether during structured care or relaxed downtime. The family offers a beautiful and supportive work environment for the right person who can offer consistency, strength, and love.
