Construction Coordinator

Position Summary

We are seeking a Mechanical Construction Coordinator to oversee the installation of mechanical systems and equipment on large pharmaceutical projects. The coordinator will manage contractors, track schedules, and enforce OSHA safety requirements, ensuring all work is completed on time, on budget, and to the plant’s quality and safety standards.


Key Responsibilities

  • Mechanical Installations
    • Coordinate the installation of evaporators, piping systems, and other mechanical equipment from pre-startup to handover.
    • Interpret drawings and P&IDs to guide contractors and resolve field technical questions.
  • Contractor & Schedule Management
    • Assign tasks, verify progress, and monitor project schedules (Microsoft Project / Primavera).
    • Review and approve estimates, change orders, and daily progress reports.
  • Safety & Compliance
    • Ensure full implementation of OSHA 30/10 requirements and internal EHS policies.
    • Conduct field inspections, issue work permits, and correct unsafe conditions.
  • Quality Control & Issue Resolution
    • Confirm installations meet engineering specifications and GMP standards.
    • Lead conflict resolution among trades and coordinate with Engineering, Operations, and QA.
  • Documentation & Reporting
    • Maintain logs, inspection records, and weekly reports for project management.
    • Support pressure tests, flushing, and walk-downs prior to final turnover.

Minimum Requirements

  1. Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related field).
  2. Experience: 7 years coordinating mechanical installations on construction projects within industrial and pharmaceutical environments.
  3. Technical Skills:
    • Installation of evaporators, piping, and supports.
    • Advanced reading of drawings, isometrics, and schedules.
  4. Tools & Software: Basic computer literacy; ability to review schedules in MS Project/Primavera.
  5. Safety: OSHA 30 (OSHA 10 minimum) and proven application of safety standards on site.
  6. Soft Skills: Contractor leadership, change-order management, conflict resolution, and effective communication.
  7. Language: Bilingual (Spanish/English).

Preferred Competencies

  • Experience coordinating multiple contractors and subcontractors on site.
  • GMP awareness for construction within pharmaceutical facilities.
  • Familiarity with CAPEX budgeting, cost control, and estimate preparation.
