emergiTEL is hiring a Senior DevOps Engineer – AWS for our client in the fintech / cryptocurrency industry. This is a Permanent role.
Compensation: $144,000 – $180,000 per year
Location: Etobicoke, ON (Hybrid)

Job Description (English)

The Role
We are seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer with deep AWS expertise, strong multi-account architecture experience, and proven leadership capability. This role owns cloud infrastructure strategy, CI/CD systems, security posture, observability, and infrastructure governance across production and regulated environments.
This is a hands-on role (approximately 80% execution, 20% mentoring and knowledge transfer) focused on building resilient, compliant, and highly available systems aligned with defined SLAs.

Key Responsibilities

Cloud Architecture & Multi-Account Strategy

• Design and manage AWS Organizations across multiple accounts
• Architect multi-region, highly available systems aligned with SLAs
• Design secure VPC and private subnet strategies, including Transit Gateways and VPN/NGINX tunnels
• Implement expert-level IAM governance (least privilege, SSO, Verified Permissions)
• Continuously evolve cloud architecture to meet fintech-grade reliability and compliance requirements

Infrastructure as Code & CI/CD Leadership

• Lead advanced Terraform implementations in complex, multi-account environments
• Design scalable Terraform module architecture and state management strategies
• Own and scale GitLab CI/CD pipelines and SaaS runners
• Build AMI pipelines and infrastructure automation using Python, Go, or Bash with deterministic builds
• Improve deployment velocity without compromising security

Containers, Orchestration & Observability

• Architect and operate Kubernetes (EKS) or ECS environments
• Manage ECR, image scanning, and auto-scaling strategies
• Implement observability using Datadog (preferred) or Prometheus/Thanos
• Define and manage SLIs and SLOs aligned to business SLAs
• Lead incident response, post-mortems, and root cause analysis
• Architect and operate AWS RDS databases

Security & Compliance

• Resolve CIS Benchmark and AWS Security Hub findings
• Harden AWS infrastructure and container workloads
• Manage secrets using HashiCorp Vault or AWS Secrets Manager
• Support PCI and regulated fintech/crypto compliance requirements
• Strengthen cloud security controls across infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines

Edge, Connectivity & Cloudflare

• Manage Cloudflare services including Firewall, Zero Trust, WARP, Access, and DNS
• Design secure edge networking and connectivity patterns
• Support secure connectivity for crypto infrastructure components
• Lead and support cloud migration initiatives as required

FinOps & Governance

• Implement cost optimization and tagging strategies
• Identify and eliminate unused resources to reduce cloud waste
• Produce architecture documentation and operational runbooks
• Drive infrastructure governance, standards, and best practices

Qualifications

• 7–10 years of experience in IT infrastructure or cloud engineering
• 5+ years owning and operating production AWS environments
• Deep expertise in AWS architecture, security, and networking
• Advanced Terraform experience in complex environments
• Strong CI/CD architecture experience (GitLab preferred)
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes (EKS) or ECS
• Professional scripting experience in Python, Go, or Bash
• Experience in PCI-compliant or regulated fintech/crypto environments
• Strong understanding of SLAs and designing systems to meet them
• Demonstrated leadership and mentoring capability

• AWS Solutions Architect – Professional (SAP-C02)
• AWS DevOps Engineer – Professional
• Hands-on Datadog experience
• Experience leading FinOps initiatives
• Cloudflare Zero Trust and WARP experience
• HashiCorp Vault experience
• Snowflake and dbt infrastructure experience
