Overview
We are seeking a highly capable L2/L3 Network Engineer to support enterprise LAN and WAN operations for a global life sciences organization based in Ghent. The role focuses on day-to-day network operations, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement across a multi-site international environment.
The ideal candidate has strong hands-on experience with Palo Alto Networks and Cisco Meraki, and is comfortable operating across both operational (L2) and engineering (L3) levels.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide L2/L3 support for global LAN/WAN infrastructure, including offices, labs, and remote users
- Troubleshoot and resolve network incidents across routing, switching, Wi-Fi, VPN, and internet connectivity
- Manage and optimize SD-WAN/SASE environments (e.g., Palo Alto, Meraki)
- Configure and maintain:
- Routing protocols (BGP, OSPF)
- Firewall policies (Palo Alto)
- Meraki MX/MS/MR environments
- Support site deployments and upgrades, including new offices and expansions
- Monitor network performance and proactively identify issues or optimization opportunities
- Collaborate with security, cloud, and infrastructure teams on cross-domain topics
- Maintain documentation, standards, and operational runbooks
- Engage with vendors (e.g., ISPs, integrators) for incident resolution and service improvements
Required Skills & Experience
- 5+ years in enterprise network engineering/support (L2/L3)
- Strong experience with:
- Palo Alto firewalls (policies, NAT, VPNs, troubleshooting)
- Cisco Meraki (dashboard, SD-WAN, switching, wireless)
- Solid understanding of:
- TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP
- Routing (BGP, OSPF)
- Network segmentation and security principles
- Experience with WAN technologies, internet breakouts, and cloud connectivity
- Proven troubleshooting skills in complex, multi-site environments
- Familiarity with monitoring tools (e.g., Auvik, SolarWinds, Datadog, etc.)
- Comfortable working in an international, business-critical environment
Nice to Have
- Experience with SASE platforms (Palo Alto Prisma, Cato, etc.)
- Exposure to cloud networking (Azure/AWS)
- Basic knowledge of QoS, traffic shaping, and application performance
- Certifications (e.g., CCNP, PCNSE, Meraki CMNA/CMNP)
