Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Histology Manager to oversee operations of the histology department in our medical laboratory. The ideal candidate will be a proven leader with strong technical knowledge of histology, experience managing staff, and certification through ASCP as a Histotechnologist (HTL) or Histology Technician (HT). This role is critical to maintaining compliance, ensuring accurate and timely results, and driving workflow efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations of the histology department, ensuring accurate and timely processing.

  • Maintain compliance with CAP, CLIA, OSHA, and other applicable regulatory requirements.

  • Supervise staff including hiring, training, scheduling, and performance evaluations.

  • Maintain and update standard operating procedures and laboratory manuals.

  • Monitor quality control and implement continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Ensure laboratory equipment is maintained, serviced, and replaced as needed.

  • Manage supply inventory and vendor relationships.

  • Lead safety practices and maintain readiness for inspections at all times.

  • Collaborate with physicians, pathologists, and laboratory leadership to support patient care.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in a scientific field required; Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences preferred.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a clinical laboratory with histology expertise.

  • ASCP certification as a Histotechnologist (HTL) or Histology Technician (HT) strongly preferred.

  • Knowledge of histology QC/QA processes, regulatory compliance, and workflow management.

  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.

  • Ability to meet CAP requirements for Laboratory Supervisor.

  • Familiarity with histology and pathology lab equipment (autostainers, microtomes, cryostats, etc.).
