A global leader in the design, manufacturing, and distribution of CNC machine tools is seeking an experienced Senior Cost Accountant to support its U.S. operations. With a 100-year legacy of precision engineering and innovation, this organization operates across North America, Europe, and Asia with more than 700 employees and $225 million in annual revenue. Now under the ownership of a prominent middle-market private equity firm, the company is focused on growth, operational excellence, and long-term value creation.

This is a critical opportunity for a finance professional to play a strategic role in supporting the profitability and efficiency of a complex, multi-site manufacturing environment. The position is located full-time at the company’s U.S. headquarters in Elgin, IL, with no remote or hybrid option.

Position Overview
The Senior Cost Accountant will be responsible for delivering accurate and timely cost reporting and financial insights to manufacturing and operations leadership. This role partners cross-functionally with production and engineering teams to ensure the integrity of cost tracking, inventory valuation, and margin analysis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze and report on manufacturing costs, variances, and gross margins

  • Collaborate with operations and production teams to ensure accurate cost tracking across facilities

  • Review customer quotes for accuracy and completeness of cost allocations

  • Conduct profitability and cost analysis across products and product lines

  • Monitor inventory transactions, cycle counts, and adjustments to ensure accuracy

  • Support month-end close activities, including journal entries and account reconciliations

  • Assist in budgeting, forecasting, and ongoing financial planning processes

  • Provide variance explanations and support for monthly financial reporting packages

  • Maintain and improve cost accounting procedures and internal controls

  • Participate in annual audit preparation and provide supporting documentation

  • Support ad hoc financial analysis and special projects as needed

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field

  • CPA or MBA preferred

  • Minimum of 3 years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment

  • Solid knowledge of U.S. GAAP and manufacturing cost principles

  • Experience with ERP systems required; Oracle JDE preferred

  • Strong Excel skills and ability to perform in-depth financial analysis

  • Demonstrated experience managing deadlines and working independently in a fast-paced environment

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills across departments

Work Location and Travel

  • This position is 100% on-site at the Elgin, IL headquarters

  • Less than 5% travel is expected

Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary: $100,000–$110,000 annually
