Chief Operating Officer (Hybrid Remote)

Rockville, MD
Chief Operating Officer (COO)
Location: Maryland (Onsite with some regional travel)
Company Overview:
FA Outdoor Spaces is an industry-leading provider of premium outdoor living solutions—specializing in high-quality decks, patios, and custom-built outdoor environments. With cutting-edge technology, a fleet of high-tech vans, and a rapidly expanding footprint, we’re not your average construction company. Our proprietary digital measurement tools, real-time ordering systems, and tech-integrated workflows are reshaping the way outdoor spaces are built. We are on track to grow from $12M to $30M in revenue and are seeking a dynamic, execution-focused Chief Operating Officer (COO) to lead the charge.
Position Summary:
The COO will serve as a strategic partner to the CEO and executive leadership, overseeing daily operations across sales, construction, logistics, technology, and talent. This individual will be a tech-savvy, growth-oriented leader with deep operational experience—capable of managing both the nuts-and-bolts of a high-volume service business and the strategic levers needed to scale. If you're energized by systems, people, and performance—and love turning potential into precision—this is your opportunity to make an outsized impact.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational Leadership
  • Own day-to-day operations across sales, production, project management, logistics, and customer service.
  • Drive performance metrics, operational KPIs, and margin optimization across departments.
  • Oversee the use, integration, and continuous improvement of proprietary tech tools (CAD-based measurement, supply chain automation, etc.).
  • Ensure job sites are delivered on time, on spec, and on budget—at scale.
Technology & Systems Optimization
  • Evaluate current platforms and recommend new tools for project tracking, CRM, ERP, scheduling, and fleet management.
  • Bridge the gap between field operations and digital tools to increase efficiency, visibility, and scalability.
  • Lead adoption of automation and AI tools for estimating, planning, and resource allocation.
Strategic Planning & Growth
  • Collaborate with the CEO to refine the growth strategy and develop scalable processes to support regional expansion.
  • Lead market expansion planning, including potential new locations, fleet scale-ups, or service line additions.
  • Analyze data across units to forecast demand, optimize job sequencing, and reduce delays or rework.
Financial & Administrative Oversight
  • Oversee budgeting, forecasting, P&L ownership, lease agreements, and CAPEX planning (vans, tools, equipment).
  • Manage vendor contracts, pricing agreements, and procurement strategies to ensure cost efficiency.
  • Collaborate with accounting and finance teams to secure financing or leasing solutions for expansion.
Talent & Culture
  • Lead the talent acquisition strategy, including recruitment of trades, project managers, and sales personnel.
  • Drive onboarding, training, and performance management programs to maintain a high-energy, performance-driven culture.
  • Oversee HR compliance, safety programs, and employee engagement initiatives.
Fleet & Field Operations
  • Ensure proper utilization, maintenance, and dispatching of a growing fleet of high-tech service vans.
  • Evaluate telematics, route optimization, and equipment usage to enhance fleet ROI.
  • Partner with field leadership to standardize best practices, safety protocols, and productivity benchmarks.

Qualifications:
  • Proven experience as COO, VP of Operations, or similar executive leadership role in construction, specialty trades, or related industries.
  • Deep operational knowledge in residential construction, outdoor spaces, landscaping, or high-volume field service businesses.
  • Demonstrated ability to scale a company from $10M+ to $30M+, ideally through tech-enabled process optimization.
  • Strong understanding of project scheduling, CRM systems, logistics/fleet operations, and vendor management.
  • Technologically fluent—able to vet platforms, manage implementation, and coach teams on digital adoption.
  • Financially literate with experience in budgeting, leasing, and vendor negotiations.
  • High-energy, team-first mindset with a bias toward action, accountability, and culture-building.

Compensation & Benefits:
  • Competitive base salary + performance bonus tied to revenue growth and operational KPIs.
  • Health, dental, vision, and 401(k) benefits.
