Our client is an institutional private lender that provides real estate investors and developers with business-purpose financing on non-owner-occupied residential properties. They primarily focus on sourcing and funding DSCR Rental loans, Rehab Bridge, and Ground-Up Construction loans. As a well-capitalized lender in the start-up phase, they are seeking an experienced Underwriter to play an instrumental role in their growth journey.
The Underwriter is responsible for the thorough assessment of risk and adherence to lending guidelines across all aspects of the loan transaction, including borrower qualification, guarantor strength, property analysis, and project feasibility for construction-related financing.
Underwrite real estate lending transactions, including DSCR Rental loans and Bridge/Construction loans with construction holdbacks.
Review, manage, and provide feedback on the work of Underwriting Support staff.
Analyze financial data for entities and guarantors, both historical and projected.
Evaluate complex borrower and guarantor credit profiles in accordance with internal guidelines and applicable regulations.
Conduct feasibility reviews of construction projects, including analysis of construction budgets and scopes of work.
Assist in underwriting and review of construction draw requests, as needed.
Identify and assess business, market, and project-related risks.
Prepare comprehensive risk assessments and credit memorandums.
Present findings and recommendations to the Loan Committee.
Manage a pipeline of DSCR Rental, Bridge, and Ground-Up Construction loans efficiently and accurately.
Provide informed recommendations regarding loan approval decisions.
Propose improvements to processes and help identify ways to minimize underwriting oversights.

Minimum of 3 to 5 years of mortgage underwriting experience.
Experience underwriting Bridge Rehab and/or Ground-Up Construction loans is required.
Experience underwriting DSCR Rental loans is preferred.
High school diploma or equivalent required; some college coursework preferred.
