The Safety Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring comprehensive safety programs to ensure a safe working environment for all employees. This role plays a critical part in maintaining regulatory compliance, minimizing risk, and fostering a culture of safety within the organization, particularly in the high-stakes field of cooling tower manufacturing, construction, and maintenance.
Safety Program Management:
Develop, implement, and update safety policies and procedures.
Conduct regular risk assessments and site inspections.
Lead the implementation of safety management systems (e.g., OSHA, ISO).
Training and Development:
Organize and conduct safety training sessions and drills.
Train staff on hazard identification, risk mitigation, and emergency procedures.
Maintain training records and ensure all employees are up to date on certifications.
Regulatory Compliance:
Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA).
Prepare for and manage external audits and inspections.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of safety laws and industry best practices.
Incident Management:
Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses to determine root causes.
Recommend corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
Maintain incident reports and analyze trends to improve safety measures.
Collaboration and Communication:
Work closely with project managers, site supervisors, and employees to address safety concerns.
Communicate safety updates and improvements to all levels of the organization.
Act as a liaison with regulatory agencies and external safety consultants.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.
Certifications such as CSP (Certified Safety Professional) or OSHA 30-hour certification are highly desirable.
Experience:
Minimum 5 years of experience in a safety management role, preferably in construction, manufacturing, or industrial settings.
Experience in the cooling tower industry or related heavy industrial sectors is a plus.
