Intermediate Architect

Victoria, BC · Architecture/Engineering

Intermediate Architect
Victoria, BC
Boutique Architecture & Interiors Studio
Salary Range: $75,000 – $95,000

About the Firm
We’re proud to be partnered with a small, design-focused architecture studio based in Victoria, BC. The firm’s portfolio spans adaptive reuse, mid-rise multi-family, custom single-family homes, infill housing, island retreats, retail tenant improvements, and more. Rather than specialize in a particular typology, the studio intentionally seeks out clients who share a passion for making meaningful, well-considered architecture.

This is a close-knit, collaborative team where design integrity, community impact, and a balanced approach to work and life are central to the firm’s culture. With a healthy pipeline of diverse projects and a steady growth trajectory, they’re looking to bring on an Intermediate Architect who can contribute across all phases and take on increasing responsibility over time.

Why Join This Team?
You’ll be part of a studio that values curiosity, collaboration, and creativity, with the opportunity to see projects through from concept to completion. You’ll be supported by experienced leadership while also having room to lead, mentor, and grow. The firm offers a flexible hybrid schedule (typically 4 days in-office), a strong focus on quality work over volume, and the chance to contribute to projects that span urban, coastal, and rural settings across Vancouver Island and beyond.

With mentorship, AIBC registration support, and clear opportunities for long-term growth, this is an ideal opportunity for someone seeking to make a lasting impact within a growing firm.

About the Role
We’re seeking an Intermediate Architect (or Intern Architect on the path to registration) with 5–8 years of experience who can contribute to design development, lead project coordination, and take ownership of documentation and construction phases. You’ll work closely with senior staff and consultants while also supporting junior team members.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead design development, working drawings, and permitting for a range of project types.

  • Coordinate consultant teams, internal workflows, and project schedules.

  • Mentor junior staff and help uphold design quality through documentation and construction.

  • Prepare rezoning, development permit, and building permit packages.

  • Assist with client communications, municipal engagement, and contractor coordination.

  • Review bylaws and planning guidelines and assist with feasibility studies.

  • Participate in construction administration, including site reviews, shop drawings, and field reports.

  • Prepare presentation materials for design review and client meetings.

Qualifications

  • 5–8 years of professional experience in architecture, ideally in BC.

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture.

  • Registered with the AIBC or eligible for registration.

  • Strong design sensibility and ability to communicate ideas visually and verbally.

  • Experience leading projects and coordinating consultant teams.

  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite, and Microsoft Office.

  • Working knowledge of BC Building Code, land-use bylaws, and local permitting processes.

  • Experience in low and mid-rise wood-frame multi-family projects is an asset.

  • Interest in a long-term role with potential for growth into more senior positions.

What’s On Offer

  • Competitive salary based on experience

  • Flexible hybrid work schedule with a supportive, collaborative culture.

  • Support for AIBC registration, continuing education, and career development.

  • Opportunity to contribute to diverse, meaningful projects across Vancouver Island.

  • A creative, purpose-driven studio where growth, mentorship, and design excellence are prioritized.
