A global insurance leader is seeking a Senior Property Underwriter to join its Canadian operations in Toronto. This role is instrumental in driving the performance of the domestic property portfolio, offering an opportunity to take on complex risks, mentor junior team members, and influence underwriting strategy.
This is a high-impact role suited for an experienced underwriter with a strong track record in commercial property lines, broker relationship management, and portfolio profitability.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Underwrite and manage a broad portfolio of mid to large commercial property accounts with a focus on quality, profitability, and long-term growth.
  • Analyze complex risk submissions, develop tailored solutions, and make sound decisions within established authority levels.
  • Serve as a key point of contact for broker relationships, negotiating terms and developing strategic partnerships to support business objectives.
  • Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders including claims, actuarial, legal, and risk engineering to ensure robust risk assessments and end-to-end client solutions.
  • Monitor portfolio performance, identify market trends, and contribute to the development of underwriting guidelines and best practices.
  • Support the development of junior underwriters through mentorship, training, and technical guidance.
  • Represent the underwriting team in internal initiatives, client meetings, and market-facing activities.
Qualifications:
  • 5–7 years of progressive experience in commercial property underwriting, with a strong understanding of the Canadian market.
  • Proven ability to assess complex risks and structure competitive and profitable insurance solutions.
  • Strong negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Analytical thinker with a proactive mindset and ability to balance risk management with commercial outcomes.
  • Knowledge of current market conditions, emerging trends, and regulatory frameworks in Canada.
  • Post-secondary education in business, finance, or a related field; professional insurance designation (e.g., CIP, FCIP) is an asset.
  • Bilingual (English/French) capabilities are a plus.
  • Some travel may be required.
