Field Utility Specialist (Travel)

Job Summary:
We are looking for a Field Utility Specialist with experience in utility and telecommunications to physically inspect gas, electric, and data utility systems while coordinating with office staff such as planners, consultants, and engineers. This role requires hands-on inspection, customer interaction, and accurate documentation of utility components to support project execution across multiple utility types.

Responsibilities:

  • Physically inspect gas, electric, and data utility systems along with associated materials and components.

  • Contact customers to notify them of temporary service interruptions for upgrades or installations, such as power company service meters.

  • Perform maintenance and replacement of power company facilities, including DTE meters at residential and commercial sites.

  • Prepare sketches, locate utilities, and document required information electronically.

  • Apply and analyze standards, plans, and specifications provided by designers and engineers.

  • Comply with all owner, company, and MIOSHA site safety rules and regulations at all times.

  • Confer with utility planners, consultants, and engineers to understand project scopes and requirements.

  • Accurately measure, document, record, evaluate, and assess existing utility structures.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Project Manager.

Work Environment & Physical Demands:

  • Primarily outdoor work in all weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.

  • Frequent walking over long distances.

  • Regular lifting or moving of objects up to 50 pounds.

  • Climbing ladders and accessing utility infrastructure, including manhole entry.

  • Travel within Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, and Wisconsin.

  • Salary commensurate with experience.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in construction, engineering, or facilities maintenance.

  • Valid driver’s license with satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record check.

  • OSHA confined space training certification preferred.

  • Ability to understand basic principles of public and private utilities.

  • Ability to learn and understand civil, structural, electrical, and communication systems and structures.

  • Knowledge and compliance with OSHA and site safety regulations.
