Tool Room Machinist (2nd Shift)

Job Title: Tool Room Machinist
Location: North Vernon, IN
Schedule: 2nd Shift | On-site
Pay Rate: Up to $25.82
Duration: 12-Month Contract (Temp-to-Hire Opportunity)

Position Overview:
We are seeking a Tool Room Machinist to support daily tooling operations at a busy manufacturing facility. This role involves maintaining tool inventories, assisting tooling specialists, fabricating and repairing fixtures, and supporting production readiness across departments. The ideal candidate will have experience with powder metal tooling and manual machining operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Place tooling orders and source quotes as needed

  • Maintain monthly physical inventory of tools and reorder as required

  • Support daily tool room operations and coordinate with manufacturing teams

  • Track tool life and perform inspections

  • Fabricate and repair jigs, fixtures, and Marposs verification rods

  • Maintain tool receiving and inspection records

  • Prepare and inspect tooling for production readiness

  • Support operator PMs and preventive maintenance routines

  • Assist with training and continuous improvement activities

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in powder metal tooling or tooling development

  • Hands-on experience with:

    • Manual machining

    • Drill press

    • Sawing

    • CNC/machining operations (preferred)

    • Blueprint reading (preferred)

  • Knowledge of safety procedures, including PPE use and Lock-out/Tag-out

  • Familiarity with hand tools, ISO9001/IATF16949, and general housekeeping standards

  • Basic computer skills (Windows, Word, Excel preferred)

Additional Information:

  • Overtime may be required

  • Drug screen and background check required

  • Tools and PPE will be provided as needed
